Gila B. Varis, L.Ac., R.N. holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from UCLA. Her subsequent course of study earned her a second Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. For the next twelve years, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. While at Cedars, she gained invaluable experience from the challenges of working in the Emergency Room. From there she moved into Medical and Respiratory Intensive Care and honed her nursing skills caring for patients in ICU.
Sometime during those twelve years of nursing, Gila realized that while Western Medicine was vital, it was only a partial approach to health care. Wanting to enlarge the scope of her medical knowledge, Gila entered the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine completing a four-year Masters Degree program at Yo San University in Santa Monica California, graduating with highest honors.
She began practicing Eastern Medicine as a licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac.) and Herbalist. After many years of private practice, she accepted an apprenticeship with Matt Van Benschoten, OMD, L.Ac., who is in the vanguard of the field of Chinese Medicine. Under his tutelage, Gila was able to gain expertise in some of his breakthrough treatment technologies that fuse mind-body integrative medicine.
